"INDECISION" - Video Clips

Various Tunes - Charlottesville, Va., 05.07.04, Charlottesville Amphitheater

Tech:

Shot with Canon Optura XI with a .7x Canon wide converter and ND2 filter. Also a Canon ZR 40 mounted on a 10' jib.

Audio is from a boom mounted ATR 25 mic.

Setting:

Starting with "What Do You Do" and going into "Last Train", these clips show the crowd growing as the sun sets on a beautiful Charlottesville Virginia spring evening.

By the time the show ended there were over 3000 people there.

Sound Check - Charlottesville, Va., 05.07.04, Charlottesville Amphitheater

Tech:

Shot with Canon Optura XI with a .7x Canon wide converter and ND2 filter. I'm working on another sample showing the live performance using a second camera on a 10' crane I built. Should be online soon.

Audio is from a boom mounted ATR 25 mic.

Setting:

This clip is a bunch of cuts of the guys setting up with short cuts of the sound check interspersed. The show was for Charlottesville's Fridays After 5 concert series and Indecision's was the first show of the season.

The last half of the clip shows Chris being interviewed by the local NBC affiliate, kind of ironic since he's the most camera shy of the band. The interviewer seemed to be having trouble with the crew back at the station... notice her facial expression at the end of the interview.

By the time the show ended there were over 3000 people there.

"Weeds" - Lot Party, UVa, 04.23.04

Tech:

Shot with Canon ZR 40, Sony TRV 950, and Canon Optura XI. The ZR 40 shots are from a camera crane I made the week before the show. I'll have more shots using it in other clips soon, as well as clips of it in use. The TRV 950 shots are from a tripod. I had to give the cuts an "aged film" filter because the tripod was located too close to the PA mains and the low end caused vibration.

Audio is from the sound board house mix, enhanced in post with reverb, EQ, and a stereo image filter since the mix was mono from the board. A little bit of stage audio using an Audio Technica ATR-25 stereo mic is mixed in at the beginning and end of the tune.

Setting:

None of us, well at least me and Shawn, really knew that this was going to be a frat party but it was. There were some technical problems at the beginning of the Indecision set. Craig's monitor didn't work and Aaron's guitar was not coming through the mains during "Ibbs' Jazz", the opening tune.

Sound Check - Winston Salem, NC, 11.08.03 - Ziggy's

Tech:

Shot with Canon ZR 40 and ZR 60. One cut uses a Sony TRV 950, you can tell which it is because of the quality increase. Most of the clip sux because I hadn't set my white balance and aperture properly at the time. Also, I had not set one of the cameras to 16:9 so the frame looks horizontally stretched at times.

Audio is strictly from the camera mics.

Setting:

This clip is a bunch of short cuts of the guys setting up. The show itself represented the first appearance of Indecision in Winston Salem in 10 years. Highlights included a powerful "Ponder Yonder" and one of my favs, a new one called "Sweet Gloria".

"Samba" - Richmond, VA, 05.31.03 - Main St. Brewery

Tech:

Most of this was shot with a Sony TRV 950 in 16:9. This camera uses a "fake" 16:9 by chopping off the top and bottom of the frame. Not the best way to do it but it works fairly well since this camera is a three chipper

Close up shot on Canon ZR 40 in Spotlight, 16:9 mode with the same "fake" method as the Sony. For a single chipper it works ok, especially in close ups in Spotlight mode.

Main audio is from a 2 track stereo feed from the board courtesy of Keith Sproat. During the close up, ambient audio from the ZR 40 camera mic was mixed in to give a hotter, live feeling.

Setting:

This show was supposed to be an outdoor show but it rained a lot that weekend and there were high winds during show time. The show was moved inside, to the only space available, the brewery itself.

The first half of the clip shows crew and staff relocating the stage and equipment indoors while the band discuss stage logistics. Doug's Hammond B3 organ got wet and the shot of the event staff drying it makes a good intro for the second half of the clip which cuts to the live performance during his solo.

You can see the shiny stainless steel brewing vats along side the building.

Coming Eventually on DVD.
